The Big SleepOut

Tonight we know of 185 people forced to sleep rough on the streets of Slough and Hillingdon. If you think this is wrong and would like to do something about it, then join us at The Big SleepOut on 29th November at Slough Football Club.

The Big SleepOut is a chance to join others who feel the same, challenge yourself and raise essential funds for our life-saving work.

What is The Big SleepOut?

The event is being held to both raise awareness of rough sleeping and homelessness within the local area and also raise vital funds to ensure Slough Homeless Our Concern and Trinity Homeless Projects can continue to help and house those that are suffering from homelessness.

Last year we helped 959 people suffering homelessness. We housed 437 people and helped 155 people move into their next home. We provided over 20,000 hot meals as well as 2,000 hot showers and 1,500 articles of clothing.

The Big SleepOut is a challenge event to spend the night sleeping outside. It is impossible for us to replicate rough sleeping and this event is not intended to do that. On the evening there will be music and poetry, testimonies and challenges. It’s a time for us all who care about homelessness to come together and do something about it.

When
Friday 29th November 2024 from 5pm onwards.

FAQs

The Big SleepOut will be a community event so you are welcome to come on your own where we are sure you will find people to spend the evening and enjoy the experience with. We also love to have teams of people so consider asking friends or coworkers whether they would like to join you in the challenge of sleeping out.

We will have qualified first aiders on site in case of any emergencies. The sleeping zone is inside the stadium itself so is fenced and secure. Staff and Volunteers will be patrolling the sleeping zone all night to ensure people feel safe.

In the evening there will be a number of food and drink outlets on site, these will be taking card or cash payments.

Gates open at 5pm and people are welcome on site from then.
5pm – 11pm An evening of entertainment; stories; and reflection
11pm – 6am SleepOut
6am- 8am Wake Up, Tidy Up and Leave

The event is being held to both raise awareness of rough sleeping and homelessness within the local area and also raise vital funds to ensure Slough Homeless Our Concern and Trinity Homeless Projects can continue to help and house those that are suffering from homelessness.

We would love for people to spread the word on social media, via work places and community groups.

We are asking people to get sponsored for taking part in the challenge, and this will be done via JustGiving and in person, via sponsorship forms, if people prefer.

We are asking people to target a minimum of £250 in sponsorship which would be amazing. £250 allows 10 hours of one to one support and coaching; it provides enough food for a week at SHOC to feed 50 people everyday; or I need other examples of what monies raised are spent on

We would encourage people to aim a big as possible with their sponsorship and hope many will be in a position to go well above this. If the target is not hit, don’t worry we wont be asking anybody to make up the difference but we ask people to consider how important fundraising is for us and the work we do.

All monies raised from this event go to Slough Homeless Our Concern and Trinity Homeless Projects, both of which are registered charities.

Parking is limited as part of the event is taking place on the car park at Arbour Park stadium. If possible we are asking people to find alternative ways to travel to The Big SleepOut. We will be offering some spaces for a small fee of £10. If you would like to reserve one please email claire@wearetrinity.org.uk

We will be using certain facilities at Slough Town Football Club, such as toilets however event is taking place outdoors in what will likely be cold (and possibly wet) weather. Please be aware of this as places to sit and indoors will be very limited.
